Management of Conflict of Interest Policy
It is a component of BAASS Code of Conduct that we avoid conflict of interests and actively manage and minimise potential conflict of interest.
Living in a rural area and with no other like services within Bendigo, there will always be high likelihood of cross over between services and roles within related autism, disability and program provision within our community.
BAASS Co-Convenors
BAASS Co-Convenors have clear expectations around Mentors, Members/Volunteers and associates being aware of and actively minimising potential areas of conflict and require clear communication with us around this if/as any queries arise.
We will manage potential conflict of interest by:
•Conflict of interest is a component of the BAASS Code of Conduct and the BAASS Internal Professional Code of Conduct. You can read the BAASS Code of Conduct here.
•Maintaining professionalism, utmost integrity and transparency in all that we do
•Clearly defined management, such as in this document
•Actively monitoring for conflict as a component of our internal auditing processes
•Having clear expectations and ensuring these are communicated to all Mentors, Members/Volunteers or Associates and is available to the community and a commitment to ensuring all Mentors, Members/Volunteers or Associates are aware of this Management of Conflict of Interest Policy
•Ensure Co-Convenors and Mentors, Members/Volunteers or Associates actively minimise potential areas of conflict and BAASS Co-Convenors require clear communication with us around this if/as any queries arise.
Funding
To minimise conflict of interest in relation to community accessing BAASS programs or services through any form of funding, we implement the following:
•Provision of Service Agreements outlining clear expectations and guidelines around BAASS and BAASS related service provision and client/participant requirements
•Funding payment methods do not require disclosure to Mentors/Volunteers/Members
•Membership fee payment will be accepted on a term/semester/annual basis and marked as ‘Payment Arranged’ for Mentor/Volunteer information so that Mentors/Volunteers are aware of payments they are not required to collect.
This is also the case for any participants/clients paying by bank transfer.
-BAASS strongly encourages and prefers payment by bank transfer and minimum of term membership fees be paid
in advance and by the end of week 1 of any given term/semester wherever possible. We also strive to maintain compassion and flexibility in management and payment of services and programs which we consider on an individual basis.
•Mentors and volunteers work on a ratio basis for efficacy and Mentor/Volunteer and participant/client safety.
Programs/services are offered on a set payment schedule and therefore Mentors do not stand to gain personally, from their roles within BAASS and in program delivery.
•BAASS is a Not For Profit organisation with robust processes around transparency, documentation and internal analysis processes with a strict and high commitment to integrity and minimising or preventing conflict of interest with absolutely no tolerance for deviation from our values.
Gifts, donations, sponsorship
•In the process of BAASS Team Members performing their roles, any gifts or donations will be disclosed to relevant BAASS parties for recording as part of our Donations and Sponsorship processes and distribution as appropriate with recognition and acknowledgement in line with our Policies and Procedures.
We always welcome and encourage feedback from each other, Mentors, Volunteers, Clients and Community.
