Students with disabilities have the legal right under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 to access and participate in an education on the same basis as their peers. The Disability Standards for Education 2005 provide national standards outlining obligations for education and training providers to ensure the rights of students with disabilities are upheld.

Flexible/ alternative education options
At BAASS, we recognise that attending school is often extremely difficult for autistic children and sometimes not the best option for many autistic children. We believe it is important to make an informed decision prioritising the wellbeing and interests of each child. We provide some information for various options available to children who need a flexible approach and environment here.
Many autistic children are being homeschooled by choice or because school environments are not inclusive and children are being traumatised by attending schools not inclusive to different needs. More information about homeschooling can be found here.
