NDIS
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is the new way of providing support for Australians with disability, their families and carers.
You can read more about the NDIS here.
The NDIS can pay for supports that are reasonable and necessary.
This means they are related to a person’s disability and are required for them to live an ordinary life and achieve their goals.
To access NDIS funding, there is criteria you must meet.
The NDIS can be contacted by telephone on 1800 800 110 or the website is available here.
Eligibility
To apply for NDIS support you must be under 65 years of age and live in Australia, in an area where the NDIS is available.
The NDIS provides support for those with "permanent and lifelong disability" impacting significantly on your ability to participate in every day activities.
You can read more about eligibility here.
Accessing the NDIS
To apply for NDIS funding, the first step is to call the NDIA on 1800 800 110. You can also have someone else call on your behalf.
The NDIS staff will ask you some questions and will support you in applying for access to the NDIS.
Once you have applied for access, you will need to provide evidence of disability and support needs.
The NDIS website has more information on access requirements here.
